Spacecrafted is the first mission in a new educational ecosystem connecting young people, schools, universities and industry around ambitious real-world challenges.

The challenge

We cannot predict every job young people will do. We can help them build the capabilities to tackle problems that do not yet have answers.

Too much STEM education stops at the activity: build the rocket, fly the drone, complete the worksheet.

The Moonshot Missions are designed differently. Students join long-running challenges, take on meaningful roles, create evidence, develop capabilities and gradually move from following instructions to contributing, investigating, coordinating and creating.

Start with Spacecrafted.

Spacecrafted gives schools a practical entry point. Students can begin with something as simple as launching a bottle rocket, then progressively take greater ownership of mission design, instrumentation, communications, satellite services and command.

The important outcome is not the rocket. It is what students learn they are capable of doing.

Why this matters

Building capability is national infrastructure.

The objective is bigger than increasing enthusiasm for STEM. Britain will need technically confident, collaborative, inventive people able to cross traditional subject boundaries and tackle unfamiliar problems.

Discover talent Students often possess capabilities they cannot name and therefore cannot communicate. Missions make those capabilities visible.
Develop capability Students progress from completing defined tasks to investigating problems, coordinating others and creating original solutions.
Capture evidence Their work, roles, badges and reflections create a record they can later draw on for college, university, apprenticeships and employment.
An open framework

These four missions are only the beginning.

Spacecrafted provides the framework rather than claiming ownership of every future challenge. Universities, companies, research groups and other organisations should ultimately be able to contribute Moonshot Missions of their own.
